WHY VACATIONS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR HEA
Every once in a while, you have got to pack your bags, get a few days off, switch off your phones and get lost in your own personal world.
Vacations help with stress reduction, Studies have showed that vacations work to reduce stress by removing people from the activities and environments that may associate with stress and anxiety, plus job stress. The effects last beyond the duration of the vacation as well.
Better Sleep, Restless nights and disrupted sleep are common complaints often stemming from the fact that we simply have too much on our minds. When we can't stop the chatter it affects our sleep, and a lack of sleep leads to less focus, less alertness, impaired memory, an increased likelihood of accidents and a decreased quality of life. Vacations can help interrupt the habits that disrupt sleep, like working late into the night or watching a backlit screen before bed. If you have stress from work and you find your sleep is disrupted because of anxiety or tension, take time off and learn to reset your sleep pattern.
Helps Restore those social connections. No need to spend every waking moment while on holiday with others, but we humans are social creatures. Vacation time helps you to reconnect with family members and friends whose presence recharges and refreshes you. "Make time to put your cell phones away and have a real conversation with your loved ones,” says McQuiston. “Participate in something everyone likes, such as games and sports. Be sure to connect and enjoy the experience. Be in the moment, not browsing the Internet."
When you start planning a vacation, even if you don’t take one, it can improve your frame of mind. An improved mood or mental ‘lift’ can start to kick in immediately. The ‘restoration process’ when you take vacation is also called ‘recovery’ – reversing the negative effects of working too much. There’s recovery through both the release from job demands and through engagement in self-chosen and pleasant activities. When you are constantly going and under pressure, stress hormones can spike, which can affect your health.
A separate study found sharing vacation experiences with your loved ones is a valuable contributor to family cohesion, whereas immersing yourself in a different culture may also foster creative thinking and improve well-being.
