SELF CARE AS A MUM IS A MUST
I usually take an hour or two before bed time to drink some calming tea or read a book, at times once the baby sleeps at night i step out on the balcony to view the distant midnight lights and the stars, im usually indoors most of the day so an hour outside on the balcony just breathing in that fresh air and listening to distant soothing noises is like a reward to me. In the morning i usually go by my skin care routine, i do a mini facial once a week and before i start on any chores before the baby wakes up i step out to view the sunrise and also breathe in that fresh air, let me tell you that morning fresh air is so calming especially if you are sourrounded by trees and a little bit of nature. This helps me stay motivated throughout the day.
As a new mum, you need to find time to give yourself a warm bubble bath, you need it and you deserve it, if you are a full time hands on mum you wait for the baby to sleep and then soak yourself for a few minutes depending on how long your baby stays asleep. If you have help with the baby that means you can even stay longer. Get yourself some relaxing bath gels and bath bombs and a cocktail of juice to help you relax.
Do some working out or yoga, i must admit i haven't been consistent with my work out routine plus i wanted to improve on my yoga. Most times especially if we do longer night feeding hours i prefer to sleep in only to wake up and have breakfast and then sleep again. I usually get a few minutes in the morning to meditate and i honestly feel better afterwords.
Dance or play some music that motivates you, this you can do with your baby or not. When a nice song that i like goes on i get my son up and we both dance to it, if he smiles i know he likes it. Calm soothing music is also nice depending on the mood that you are in, I'm always in the mood for loud music...lol
Get a massage, whether you decide to go to the spa or have one at home you still deserve it. I find myself aching at the end of the day mostly from carrying the baby up and down, as they grow they tend to get heavier so trust me you need it.
Get that make over that you have always wanted, get that hair done, those nails made, that facial and give yourself a break. Most stay at home mums forget to focus on themselves, after i gave birth my skin went south because i took a break from my weekly skin care until i looked into the mirror and saw horror since then i made it a must to take care of my skin weekly, i try to make sure that i get the time for it.
I must say I'm one of the best preachers for self care, especially as a mum because we tend to forget to take care of ourselves, we also forget that there simple things that we can do to take care of ourselves....
Till next time
